The Archives of Kaillera (further story background)

1) Island Areas and background history

The Isles of Kaillera, or more specifically the mainland, is divided up between 3 major regions.   The Center region, which was most commonly referred to as Kaillera Prime, was the major hub of commerce and industry for the people of Kaillera.   City streets were lined with shops, and people gathered from far and wide to peruse the wares of the famous artisans of Kaillera.

The west-most area of Kaillera, which was commonly referred to as Chenir, was home to some of Kaillera’s finest scholars.  They were rumored to have been the original creators of the hover-trust technology, which we take today for granted.  Although the knowledge of such devices was long lost for many generations, it is a common belief that the patent holders had harvested the technology from long-forgotten texts and recently unearthed artifacts.

The east end of Kaillera, often referred to as Ranynia, was thought to be the main dwelling area for Kaillera’s finest citizens.    While most of the common folk lived in or around Kaillera Prime, the elite members of society found recluse in the calm forests and soothing hilltop regions of Ranynia.  The gully beneath the hill provided both protection from ruffians and natural disasters like flooding.   Needless to say, if you lived in the area of Ranynia, you were well respected and highly regarded.

The Isle of Daggorah, found south of the Kaillera Prime mainland, was originally a production town, used for little else but manufacturing by the entrepreneurial folks who could not afford to rent space in the bustling mainland.   For this reason, when the settler colony returned defeated from the war on Tiki, they were banished to Daggorah, as it was considered unworthy compared to the mainland.  The inhabitants of Daggorah were forced to flee back to the mainland, or face the same shame as the refugees.

2) The Daggoriah and the fate of Kaillera

The Daggoriah, as they are now called, were formerly a chosen group of adventurers from Kaillera, hand selected by the elder leaders to venture forth and colonize the surrounding island areas of Tiki.   Upon landing at Duda Beach, they feared that the desert regions might be too harsh, so they set sail again, following the edge of the island mainland.   They landed at Kantana point, and decided it was fitting to their needs.   While the original intent was to spread their dominance across the entire Tiki region, a plague hit the original settlement that killed off half of the settlers.

Facing annihilation, the settlers focused on digging in and creating a stable economy to survive.   Soon they developed their own class system, government and laws.  As this time past, the settlers lost interest in colonizing further islands, and focused their attention on furthering their society as a whole.   For a time, it was good.  But as the colony grew, so did the boundaries of their exploration.  It was not long before some adventurers stumbled across some ancient abandoned ruins… or so they thought.  The tale of the Monkey Shrine soon spread throughout the entire Kantana colony, and parties of explorers were formed to see what treasures could be found.

But, little did they know that the Monkey Shrine was holy ground to the Tiki natives.  When the first groups of adventurers arrived at the ruins, they marveled in awe at the wonder of the great stone fortresses, and soon began to wander around exploring for wealth.   But the Tiki natives, hiding in the trees above, were expecting them.  Screams filled the air as spears and blow-darts took down the entire party of adventuring settlers.   A few managed to escape back to the fortitude of the Kantana settlement, and because the Tiki natives dared not venture far from the forest and scared volcano region, they settlers were safe…for the time being.

The settlers lived in fear for many months, wondering they would soon face the same fate as their adventuring friends.  But, after a time, it became clear the danger was confined to the deep forest regions surrounding Monkey Crater and the Nene Volcano.  The settlers focused their attention to building a military to face future conflicts, and resources were divided into both research for new technology and standard war material.  Years went by with no sign of the natives, but the settlers never forgot the eminent threat that lived just beyond the treeline.  Life continued to flourish for the settlers.

Meanwhile, back on Kaillera, no word had come back from the colonizing party, and they were assumed lost.  Plans were scrapped for further adventures, because the once-dwindling food supply was now expanded ten-fold with new technology developed by the Scholars of Chenir.  The families of the settlers continued with their lives, considering their friends and relatives who sailed off as no more.

The settlers, however, were thriving.   The years past, and they the settlers knew that they had little choice but to expand into the surrounding areas for more resource and land.   The military geared up for war, confident that the new air-propulsion weapon invention would be more than enough to take on the primitive monkey worshipers.  The high-ranking officials in the new colony, who were referred to as the Soloshim, fulfilled both the role of government tasks and priesthood for the settlers. Fueling the fire of war, they convinced the settlers to branch out and conquer the Tiki natives and reap the rewards.    But the war did not go as planned, and the settlers were held off at the front of Altus Tuma.  This time, the Tiki people would not be so peaceful.  They sent small waves of warriors to combat the settler’s outermost townships, and many lives were lost.   The settlers, tho superior in technology, were unable to penetrate the deep forests.  The Tiki natives had complete control of the treeline, as it was their natural fighting grounds.   But likewise, the Tiki natives could not crack the fortresses of the settlers in the open ground areas of Kantana point.

For 9 years, the conflict occurred, but there was always a stalemate.  With their resources running out, the settlers had no choice but to stage a full-scale invasion of the Tiki forests.   Even with the fledgling hover-power technology that which provided both aerial and faster land based attack, the settlers were defeated.  Forced to flee their new home, the settlers had little choice but to try to make their way back to the mainland of Kaillera.   But they would not receive a warm welcome.

Much to the surprise of the Kaillerians, the settlers whose lives were long thought lost, suddenly appeared one misty morning, battle scarred and hungry, wanting only a place to rest.   But it was clear to the Kaillera elders that the settlers were much changed since they had departed Kaillera Prime so long ago.   They were not used to the stricter rules of Kaillera, and still hungered for blood from the previous campaign.  After 2 weeks of discussion, it was decided the settlers would be banished to the Isle of Daggorah, and would no longer be welcome on the mainland of Kaillera.

Beaten and angry, the newly formed outcasts made their new homes.   It was clear that they would never be allowed back on Kaillera, so they soon turned their attention to refining the abandoned factories on Daggorah with their own technology.   This time, they focused all their attention on the machine of war.   Because of the secrecy, little is known about the new technology the Daggoriah developed in their years of exile, but many claim they had produced great flying vehicles capable of traveling long distances and carrying a crew of 5 or more.    An underground tunneling device was also rumored to exist, but no excavations of the grounds of Kaillera have taken place yet.

One thing is known, and that is a great battle did occur.   While the Daggoriah may have had superior weaponry, they had been out of the loop from the mainland for too long.  They had not anticipated the technological advances of the Chenir scholars, specifically the “Blink” technology, which allowed soldiers and civilians to essentially teleport from one island location to another, once a marking tag had been left.  It is believed this is what saved the Kaillerians from a quick demise, but may have ultimately caused the destruction of the entire Kaillera island chain.   Speculation abounds that the Daggoriah, furious at yet again being unable to achieve victory, unleashed a weapon of great power that caused the entire island chain to sink beneath the sea.   Survivors of the conflict on Kaillera escaped to Nada Island and formed a new civilization, which eventually expanded to all of Tiki and became society as we know it today.  No one really knows what happened to the Tiki natives.  Some believe they died out after the great war with the settlers, others believe they abandoned Tiki in search of a better place.  One thing is certain though; they were absent once the new settlers expanded into the mainland of Tiki and Ootay.

Generations past, and the stories of Kaillera and the Daggoriah soon faded into myth and legend, studied only by adventurous souls and scholars of old.  But times are changing, and the truth behind the Kaillera mystery may soon be uncovered.  It is unclear what caused them to resurface after being submerged for so many generations, but scholars hope to uncover the facts soon enough.  The future may be a bright one...or it may be filled with peril… because no one truly knows what mysteries are locked beneath the long lost isles of Kaillera and Daggorah.

The Isles of Kaillera (Original Book Story)

Tales have been told of the lost islands of Kaillera, a land of knowledge and wealth that had long sunk beneath the sea. Ancient stories tell that immigrants of Kaillera settled at the point of Kantana long ago, spawning a new township and along with it, conflict with the natives of Tiki. After 9 years of war the Kaillerians were banished back to their homeland. But the Kaillera elders would not take them back, and treated them as outcasts. They were forced to live on the outcropping Island of Daggorah, and forbidden to set foot on the mainland again. They were hereby known as Daggoriah, and were looked upon with shame and disgrace. The villagers on Kaillera Prime, its west coast of Chenir, and east coast of Ranynia, were united in agreement. But the Daggoriah were not so easily discouraged. They had survived conflict before, and this time they vowed to prevail.

Years past, but construction of a great war machine, one with the power to move the earth itself, was rumored to be underway. Little is known about the fate of the Kaillerians or the Daggoriah after this point, however it is believed that the vanishing of the island was brought about by the great onslaught that occurred. The Daggoriah, lead by their high priests known as Soloshim, allegedly brought upon a the islands a curse so great that it caused the demise of all those living there... but, like many tales, truth slowly faded, becoming the stuff of myth and legends.

But lately, rumors have been spreading that the islands have resurfaced, brought back by some unknown magic or natural event. The legends of old have always lingered in the minds of the locals, like a long forgotten memory waiting to be aroused. Now, with promise of great treasure and glory, treasure hunting parties have begun to form.

The fate of the islands has yet to be determined, as a new chapter in its history is about to begin.

Practical Applications

1) Kaillera Prime

The center area of Kaillera, known as Kaillera Prime, would be best suited to house many shops and low tier housing complexes, a metropolis of sorts. Specialty shops with items only available to visitors on Kaillera, and various funzone and stage areas in the town square for activities in the town.

2) Chenir

The west area of Kaillera, known as Chenir, would be best used for clubhouses and other scholarly housing that best fit its history as a place of knowledge and learning. Stage areas for classes would also be appropriate.

3) Ranynia

The east area of Kaillera, known as Ranynia, would be the location for upscale housing, and high society formal events. Houses would be large and expensive, but offer excellent hilltop viewpoints and lush forest surroundings.

4) Isle of Daggorah

As fitting to the war-like nature of the banished Daggoriah, the Isle south of the Kaillera mainland should be a no-holds barred battlezone area, allowing full scale paintball areas across the entire island, and no limitations on vehicles, dropping, or the like. This could be the "battle island" that was talked about before, a place where the griefers and battle hungry could go to quench their thirst for excitement, w/out interfering with the peaceful inhabitants of the mainland.
